Phaedra's mother, Danthres was the scion of a minor Korvosan noble house, with a strong thread of elven blood due to a number of arranged marriages throughout the generations. She was in fact returning home from her own arranged marriage, when the wedding party had the tremendous misfortune to be attacked by the red dragon Thalakrond. Danthres and a few other women were taken captive by the wyrm, and her newlywed husband, and almost everyone else were killed.
She spent the better part of a year as the dragon's prisoner, subjected to his foul whims and fouler magical experiments. Thalakrond was fascinated by blood-magic, and the mixing of different races, and saw Danthres as an ideal subject for his research, infusing her womb with his own draconic essence. If not for the child, she would have taken her own life from the sheer despair, long before she was rescued.
But rescued she was, by a band of heroes led by an adventurous son of House Jeggare. Thalakrond was slain, and Danthres married her rescuer, giving her newborn daughter a father. Phaedra grew to be a normal, happy child, with a robust constitution and a love of learning that promised she would go far in life... at least until the effects of the dragon's meddling manifested during her teenage years.
Needless to say, the first time she fell into a trance, burst into flame, and emerged in the form of a young dragon, it was rather disconcerting for Phaedra, her friends, and her parents alike. It was also at this time that her mother revealed the full circumstances surrounding her birth. She spent the next few weeks changing whenever she grew upset, summoning forth “pets” at whim when she grew lonely, and alternating between manic exultation, fear, guilt, and undirected fury. In desperation, her parents contracted both a wizard and a priest to examine her.
It was revealed that Talakrond's alterations, unseen for so long, went soul-deep, and Phaedra's link to draconic energies could not be severed without killing her. They told her parents that the abilities might fade in time, if they were suppressed... or, the attempt could do her irreversible harm. Danthres, still shamed by her captivity, and terrified for her only child urged her to set the powers aside, but Phaedra chose to take the mage's advice; the way to deal with her abilities was to master them.
This won her few friends among the parents of the other children she terrified, and nearly destroyed her relationship with her mother. In the end, she could not deny the lure of this part of herself. Leaving a note not to worry, and taking only a few coins and changes of clothes, she set out one night alone. Her stepfather was waiting for her on way out of town, but offered her only well-wishes, hopes to see her again, and a few practical items she had neglected. With an eager heart, and the power of a dragon surging in her veins, she set off for Korvosa's sister city of Magnimar, to see what future she could forge.Aspirations

Phaedra can summon and merge with an extraplanar spirit of draconic power (her eidolon). She physically transforms into a young red dragon, with her own body vaguely visible within. In this form, she uses the eidolon's physical ability scores and BAB in place of her own, and gains its hp as temporary hp. She gains its natural armor, natural attacks, special abilities and evolutions. While fused, she is considered both a humanoid and an outsider, whichever is worse for her. If the temporary hp are depleted, the eidolon is banished. It takes one minute to summon, and appears with the same number of temporary hit points it had when it was banished (unless they were depleted, in which case it has half its maximum).Evolutions (5/5):
bite*, claws, fire resistance, improved damage (claws), improved natural armor, legs x2*, reach (bite), tail*. Quadruped base form.Fused Link:
when the eidolon's temporary hp would be reduced to 0, Phaedra can sacrifice her own hit points instead, to keep it from being banished.
