"I have no time to educate Dostan, not properly. But I will pray to the Lord, Gaerlan, that he send me a drop of Lethe. It is a fast, if costly way to end his resistance."

....

....

A man wakes up in a dark, cold stone room. Trying to move, he finds that he is chained to the wall.

Who is he? he wonders. Where is he? Why?

But there is not much time to ponder such questions. There is a light. And a figure.

Woman, floats through his mind unbidden. All in burgundy. And... He shrinks away from the white mask. In the dancing lantern light it seems somehow sinister. Fear, like curiosity, is a new feeling.

"Do you remember your name?" He finds that her speech has meaning to him, though he knows not how.

What is my name?

Once per week, Dostan may make a Will save with a DC of 20. If he succeeds, the DC of his curse is reduced by 1. Once the DC reaches 0, he is cured and regains his memories, as well as class abilities and so on.

He frowns, thinking that's an answer that should come easily. The half-elf looks down at himself, taking stock of his body, as if seeing it for the first time. His frown deepens as he thinks, looking for anything he could use to answer her, and finds only a blank slate inside his mind.

"I... I do not know."

"A man who has lost his name." His masked guest pauses, seeming to study him, though it is hard to tell.

"Do you want it back?"

He shrugs, rattling the chains upon his limbs. "Was it a good one?"

"No. It was polluted. Borne by a man who, though his sense of honor was strong, ultimately betrayed his King for a woman, and who stood to lose his life for it."

Puella continues as the man falls silent, perhaps contemplating her words.

"So you have a choice. You can struggle to regain his name - and die bearing it. You can stay here, and waste away, a nameless prisoner in a nameless cell. Or you can let that other man die, and for yourself, start a new life. That is what I offer you. A new life. A new name. A chance to build up new honor unstained by the mistakes of any other man."

There is a clink of metal. A key in her hand that matches the metal of the chains about his wrists.

"With this key I can save your life. But I warn you - in return for all that I offer - I will expect the life debt to be repaid."

"Hmmm. A woman can be better than a king, by far. Kings are only worth as much as they can give in gold or take by the sword. I don't know if I want to owe you a debt, but staying here forever sounds even worse. Fine, let me out."

The woman nods.

"My name is Puella. And you,"

The chains fall away from his wrists.

"I name you Anthelme."

"Anthleme. Alright... it'll do until I think of a better one. What now?"

"Introductions and tours. To the Horn and its lords, and then to those you will work with, chiefly Captain Melrov. And last, gifts. Another introduction - this one, to the rewards of service."

Puella leads Anthelme out, showing him the Horn and introducing him to the other allies of his new pledged mistress - Sebastien and Gaerlan as the high leadership, Melrov as a commander of soldiery, Gerrard and his lot as companions. She observes his reaction and comportment. The richly stocked armories, the soldiers' quarters, the tavern with its ale and Giuseppe's finest food, and the other accomodations of the Horn are shown to the newly minted warrior.
